The nightly launchpad: five evening minutes that buy you a calm morning
Your mornings don't start in the morning. They start the night before.
The nightly launchpad is a five-minute routine you do right before winding down: lay out tomorrow's clothes, pack your bag, set out anything you need to grab on the way out, and get the coffee ready to brew. That's it. Nothing fancy, no color-coded planner required.
Why it works is embarrassingly simple. Every morning decision costs a little willpower, and willpower is thinnest when you're groggy. Choosing an outfit and hunting for your keys while half-asleep burns energy you could spend on actually enjoying your coffee. Evening-you is calmer, clearer, and better at finding things — so let evening-you run the logistics.
The rule is: if your hand will reach for it tomorrow morning, stage it tonight. Clothes on the chair, bag by the door, lunch in the fridge at eye level, wallet and keys in one fixed spot. Five minutes feels almost insultingly small, which is exactly why you'll actually do it.
The payoff shows up immediately. Your first ten minutes of the day are the hardest to get back once they're gone; spend them on breakfast and daylight instead of a frantic scavenger hunt. Future-you will be very grateful to past-you.
