The checkout sweep: never leave a charger behind again

I have a small graveyard of hotel-room chargers in my past. Phone chargers, a toothbrush, one beloved hoodie. All of them abandoned in rooms I'll never see again, all of them left behind in that frantic last-ten-minutes-before-checkout scramble. So I made myself a tiny ritual: the checkout sweep. Before I zip my bag, I walk the room in the exact same order every time. Bathroom first — under the sink, behind the door. Then the nightstand and every outlet, because chargers love to hide behind furniture. Then the closet, including the safe and the top shelf I forgot existed. Finally the bed — I pull back the covers and check under the pillows. Same order, every trip. That's the whole trick. When you're rushing, your brain can't be trusted to remember the toothbrush — but muscle memory doesn't need your brain. It just does the lap. One last look from the doorway before I close it behind me. Thirty seconds, and I've never left a charger since. Start with your next trip. Do the sweep once, deliberately, and let it become automatic. Future you — the one who needs a charged phone at the airport — will be so grateful.
