The Patience of a Better Question
When a question arrives, the impulse is to meet it with an answer. But there is another kind of intelligence: staying with it just long enough for its shape to change.
Some questions want a solution. Others want to reveal the assumptions that produced them. A good question can move a room, revise a plan, or make a familiar certainty feel slightly less solid.
We do not always need more information. Sometimes we need a better pause—one that lets the obvious answer lose its authority.
Curiosity is not a hunger for novelty. It is a refusal to let the first explanation have the final word.
