The Life You Are Not Living
Every choice creates an absence.
To say yes to one life is to let a thousand possible lives remain unwritten: the city not moved to, the question not asked, the person not called, the work not attempted.
We often mistake freedom for keeping every door open. But an open door is not a passage; it is only an invitation. A life gains its shape when we accept that choosing means leaving something behind.
Perhaps regret is not proof that we chose wrongly. Perhaps it is simply evidence that our imagination is still alive.
If you could see every life you might have lived, would you finally choose one—or become unable to choose at all?
