One loop, not five: the errand trick that gives you your Saturday back

Most of us run errands like popcorn. One trip for groceries on Tuesday, the pharmacy on Wednesday, the hardware store on Saturday — three starts of the car, three parking lot adventures, three lines. Here's the fix: trip chaining. Once or twice a week, sit down for two minutes and write out every errand you need. Then sort the list by location, not by urgency, and run them all in one loop. A couple of small rules make it work. Put anything cold or frozen last so it's not melting in the trunk while you browse lightbulbs. And keep a running "errands" note on your phone, so the next time something pops up you add it to the list instead of making a special trip. The overhead of an errand isn't the shopping — it's the getting there. Batching five stops into one loop doesn't take five times as long; it takes maybe fifteen minutes longer than a single trip. What you get back is the whole rest of the day. Try it this weekend. Write the list tonight, run the loop tomorrow, and notice how good it feels to be done with everything by noon.
