The 5-Minute Reset: End Your Day in a Tidy Room
There is a small trick I swear by on busy days: the five-minute reset. Set a timer for five minutes and tidy just one room, or even one corner of it.
The rules are simple. Put things back where they belong, toss what does not, and do not reorganize the whole closet. Speed matters more than perfection. When the timer dings, you stop, even mid-mess. Though most nights, you will want to finish.
Here is the fun part: a short deadline turns tidying into a game instead of a chore. Racing the clock is weirdly satisfying, and it keeps the perfectionist in you from turning a quick tidy into a weekend project.
Waking up to a clear counter or an uncluttered desk also quietly lowers the background hum of morning stress. You start the day ahead instead of behind, and it only cost you five minutes the night before.
My favorite time is right after dinner. Five minutes while the kettle boils, and the kitchen goes from chaos to calm. Some nights I do the living room instead. No schedule, no guilt.
Try it tonight. Pick one small zone, set the timer, and race yourself. Future you, the one waking up tomorrow, will be grateful.
